The following news was shared at St Mary Magdalene, Hatfield Hyde and at St Andrew's Church, Headington, in the Diocese of Oxford this morning:
“Keble College and the Bishop of Oxford have appointed The Revd Emma Hopegood Jones as Vicar of St Andrew’s Headington in Oxford. This appointment is subject to the usual checks.
Please remember Emma, Chris and Rupert in your prayers at this time, along with the people of St Mary Magdalene, Hatfield Hyde and St Andrew’s, Headington.”
My final Sunday here at St Mary Magdalene will be the 20th July, St Mary Magdalene’s day.
My new role at St Andrew's is not one which I went looking for, but it is one that I have discerned carefully and prayerfully and I have felt God's call very strongly throughout the process.
I will of course be very sad to leave you all, and we will miss you. It has been my privilege to serve as your priest for the last four years, and you have all taught me so much as I have navigated my first incumbency.
However, where God calls, we must follow, and I am excited about the opportunities which lie ahead. Many of you will be aware that it has been challenging for us as a family having Chris working away in Oxford overnight every week, and we are looking forward to living only a 15 minute cycle away from his office.
A date for my licensing will follow in due course, but for now we prepare to say goodbye to a church we have loved and a place we have called home, and we journey together through this Holy Week, as we prepare to celebrate together the great feast of Easter.
With my love and prayers for you all this Holy Week, Emma
Tuesdays 11am-1pm, Parish Centre Hall Grove
